Having a golf cart is a lot of fun, and it is less maintenance than a regular vehicle. But to keep it in tip-top shape, you must learn to take good care of it. In this article, we provide information on the things you should be on the lookout for with your golf cart. For any other issues, we are here and more than happy to fix it!

Cleaning

To keep your golf car looking glamorous, it is important to regularly clean it. You can easily do this by:

  1. Use a soft cloth or sponge (such as a microfiber towel) dipped in lukewarm water and dish soap. Don’t use a harsh cleaner or rough sponge as that could damage it.
  2. Wipe down the body, seats, dash, etc. and spray with water to rinse. Be sure to avoid the electronics.
  3. Optional: Finish it off with polish to give it a nice shine. You can get this from us here at Colorado Golf & Turf.

Battery Maintenance

Depending on if you have a gas or electric golf car, battery maintenance is a bit different.

For gas- It’s important to make sure the battery is free of corrosion. Corrosion is a buildup of a white, blue, or greenish substance that can appear around a battery’s terminals, posts, or cables. It can have a granular, powdery texture. Similar to this photo.

The simplest way to clean it is to take some water and a bit of baking soda and use a toothbrush to scrub at the corrosion. Once the buildup has been removed, rinse with water and apply battery terminal protector to prevent the battery from corroding again. You can purchase this at your local auto parts store.

For electric- These batteries should be charged fully after every use and the water levels should be inspected often. Click here to learn how to use distilled water to replenish your golf car battery.

Tire Pressure

Tire pressure on a golf car is just as important as it is with a regular car. If the tire pressure is low, you risk damaging the tires and wheels. If it is too high, the tires are more vulnerable to punctures.

Occasionally check your tires’ air pressure levels with a gauge at home. Adjust the tire pressure according to the psi required for your specific golf car.

Scan for Loose Bolts, Screws, or Cables

Look for any visible bolts and screws and tighten them if needed.
